In der Online-Ausgabe des Time Magazine ein Bericht über: 6 Comix-Künstler am runden Tisch, Spiegelman/Burns/Deitch/Kaz/Ware/McGuire.

Solche Probleme wie Chris Ware möchte man in Deutschland mal haben. Da tauchen Comics, schon gar die von Chris Ware, in gar keiner Ecke von Buchhandlungen auf, nicht mal bei Humor & Cartoon:

Chris Ware, ever the pessimist, pointed out that "the problem is that [comix] always end up in this section called 'graphic novels' which some bookstores don't even have so they end up in 'Science Fiction,' or even worse, with 'Role Playing Games.' I can't go into bookstores any more because if you see [your book] it's always in that section, or else you don't see it. Either way it's depressing."

Außerdem ist Ware - ein wirkliches Genie, beiläufig gesagt - auf der diesjährigen Whitney Biennale vertreten. Ich schwanke noch, ob ich das jetzt gut oder schlecht finde (ein Freund dieses Comix-Kunst-Crossovers bin ich nicht unbedingt. Obwohl z.B. Anke Feuchtenberger, die ganz unnarrative Comix macht - was nicht notwendig schon "Kunst" ist, bei ihr aber tendenziell doch - schon klasse ist. Chris Ware selbst ist da auch ein bisschen skeptisch:

Asked how he felt about being included in this year's Biennial exhibition at New York's Whitney museum, Ware said he felt flattered but dismissed it as "luck of the draw." "It's also fairly nonsensical because the clip that I'm including you have to sit down and read. You can't spend a lot of time looking at the artwork on the wall. It's the difference between art for reproduction and art for display." )
