Wohnungssuche in Berlin. Man vertut sich im Ende der Straße und landet im tiefsten Wedding, Sonntag ist's bei bestem Wetter und es tagt der 6. Kleingartentag zwischen den Mietskasernen. Wir sind hier falsch. Dann immer weiter die Straße runter, begrünte Steinzpflanzungen, die zum Slalom auffordern, rotes Ziegelimitat in einer langen Hausschlange, vierzig, fünfzig Nummern, noch immer nicht das, was wir suchen. Dann die Mauer queren, die nicht mehr steht, Bernauer Straße, jetzt Prenzlauer Berg, von sozialwohnungsbau-hübsch zu halbwegs-saniert-schmuddlig, gleich fühlt man sich wohler. Dann aber, noch lange nicht die Hausnummer 1 erreicht, beginnt, Meter für Meter, der imaginäre Mietpreiszähler im Kopf zu rattern, ab Arkonaplatz ist klar, dass die Gegend schwer aufs Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis schlagen wird. Verzagt stoßen wir dann, schräg rüber von der Zionskirche, aufs Sonntagnachmittagsbesichtigungsgrüppchen, in dem beim Übereinander-Stolpern durch die Wohnung keine Stimmung aufkommt. Rauhfaser und lilaschwarz-gesprenkelte Fliesen, eng die Zimmer und zu Tode renoviert. Beste Gegend, nichts für uns.

Das «Lexicon» [des gegenwärtigen Latein] erscheint standesgemäss in der Vatikanischen Verlagsbuchhandlung, herausgegeben wurde es von der Stiftung «Latinitas», einst von Papst Paul VI. gegründet. Ihr Präsident ist Cleto Pavanetto, der zudem an der Päpstlichen Salesianischen Universität Griechisch unterrichtet. In einem Gespräch, das wir mit ihm führten, erklärte er in fliessendem Latein die Motivation, das «Lexicon» wieder aufzulegen: «Die Flüchtigkeit der Zeiten und der damit verbundenen Dinge führen uns täglich neue Wörter vor Augen, die es zu verstehen und zu überliefern sowie korrekt den Ohren und anderen Sinnen begreiflich zu machen gilt.»

Also das, NZZ, hätte ich jetzt im Original erwartet.
